LEDGER Enters 'Ultimate Villain' Club

Late Heath Ledger's role as 'The Joker' has been voted one of the ultimate film villains in a poll. His role in the new Batman film 'THE DARK KNIGHT' has also seen calls for a posthumous Oscar. Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal Lecter came in at number one in the poll of UK film fans by an online rental and entertainment site that surveyed more than 2,500 members. Star Wars' Darth Vader, played by David Prowse and voiced by James Earl Jones was second in the poll. Joe Pesci's turn as Goodfellas' quick-tempered mobster Tommy DeVito came third while Javier Bardem was fourth for his role as No Country for Old Men's hitman Anton Chigurh. Alan Rickman as German antagonist Hans Gruber in 1988's Die Hard came fifth. [AR/FILM-TV.COM]
BALE Asks For Privacy In Allegations

"DARK KNIGHT" star Christian Bale has asked for privacy following allegations he assaulted his mother and sister in a London hotel. The Welsh-born actor, in his first public comments, says the incident is a "deeply personal matter." Bale made the comment at a press conference in Barcelona, Spain, during a tour to promote the new Batman movie. Bale spent four hours talking to British police following allegations that he assaulted his mother and one of his three sisters in his suite at London's Dorchester Hotel. [AP/J.B./FILM-TV.COM]

BATMAN actor Christian Bale flipped during a slanging match with his mother and sister after they told him a sob story, it was revealed last night. Legal sources told The Sun the women said sister Sharon needed £100,000 to help her bring up her three children. ANJELICA HUSTON To Get Excellence Award

Actress, director, producer and Oscar winner Anjelica Huston will receive the Excellence Award 2008 at the upcoming 61st Locarno International Film Festival, August 6-16. The fest's annual trophy honours Huston's overall versatility and imposing screen presence. The award's presentation will be followed by the European Premiere of 'Choke', a black comedy directed by Clark Gregg, starring Anjelica Huston, Sam Rockwell and 'No Country for Old Men's Kelly Macdonald.
