'BATMAN' Sets Box Office Record!
20.07.08 10:14
Batman sequel "THE DARK KNIGHT" (TRAILER) set a new Box Office record to become the top opener of all time for a three-day weekend. The highly anticipated film, co-starring late actor Heath Ledger as the anarchic Joker, sold an estimated $155.3 million worth of tickets during its first three days of release across the U.S. and Canada, Time Warner Inc-owned studio reported. That's more than the $151.1 million earned by "Spider-Man 3" during its first weekend in May 2007. "The Dark Knight" stars Welsh actor Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader and was directed by English filmmaker Christopher Nolan. The Film reportedly cost about $180 million to make, due in part to the pioneering use of Imax heavy cameras for highest resolution and giant-screen theaters. [VAR/SVR/FILM-TV.COM]
SIMPSONS Creator Confirms Movie Sequel Plans
20.07.08 02:40
Cartoonist Matt Groening, creator of 'The Simpsons' has confirmed that he is planning a sequel to last summer's 'The Simpson's Movie'. Groening, who was speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour, said however that a second feature film could take several years to make as the show's production team are not keen on taking on the extra work load. Groening said: "It will happen at some point, but I have no idea when. The first one took us four years - mainly because we don't like to work any harder than we usually do. We'll get to it, I'm sure." Last year 'The Simpsons Movie' grossed more than $500m at the worldwide box office. [RTE/AR/FILM-TV.COM]
